EuroMillions in 2014 and 2015
2014 saw 23 major wins in EuroMillions. It's less than last year, which saw 39 major wins, though that's because it was a record-high year for EuroMillions.
It was a good year for the Spanish, who won eight of the top 23 wins. In second place, the French, who celebrated five major wins and, in third place, the British with three.
It's interesting to note that Spain, France and the UK are the three founding countries of EuroMillions - and these countries also tend to win the most. This trend has been maintained for years, with very few exceptions to the status quo.
2014's Moments Of Joy
So, let's look back at those major moments and winner story highlights, starting in March with the story of Neil Trotter. Taking a leaf from Delboy's book, TV's most famous Trotter, Neil had remarked to his co-workers that ?this time tomorrow? he'd be a millionaire before going on to prove that he who dares, wins!
Not that anyone believed him. His girlfriend famously told him to ?shut up and to stop being an idiot.? Later he rang his father, who also didn't believe it, and also called Neil an idiot. But Neil had the last laugh when he picked up his cheque for just under £108 million. He no longer works in the garage and is instead focussing on his passion for racecar driving.
In April, meanwhile, factory worker turned Phileas Fogg, Matt Myles made headlines after winning £1 million and spent months travelling the world, living the jet-set lifestyle, heading on a cross-American road trip and going to Brazil to watch the World Cup.
In the second half of the year the lottery spotlight fell on Murray McKenzie, a taxi driver, who won £215,000 because he forgot his son's birthday. For years he'd been playing the number 13 as one of his lucky numbers, despite 12 being his son's correct date of birth.
