French EuroMillions winner donates €50m to charity
The EuroMillions Superdraw is soon upon us and to get us into the right mood, a truly inspirational winner story has surfaced. It turns out a Frenchman who recently won an astonishing €72 million on EuroMillions will donate no less than €50m of it to charity.
The winner - who wishes to remain anonymous - won the seventh highest jackpot in France in February, earlier this year. He now wants to split the donation - which makes up about two thirds of his windfall - between ten different national charities.
It goes without saying that donations of these dimensions are extremely rare - especially where benefactors remain anonymous. The story has garnered attention by media outlets around the world and people are desperate to find out the identity of the magnanimous winner.
But little information has been released about him. All we know is that he is in his 50s, unmarried and with no children. French newspapers are now hailing him as a national hero - not least when viewed in the light of the hardship faced by many in the light of a recession and a government many believe have failed to act on their election promises. France is in many ways the birthplace of solidarity and this win shows that it is still going strong.
This is reported to have been the largest donation ever by a winner on the lotto in the country's history. The money will be placed with different non-governmental charities working with the disadvantaged. The winner has asked for nothing in terms of either compensation or publicity for his donation.
While the jackpot won by the Frenchman was, at €72 million, still a large windfall, it is no match for the upcoming jackpot of the EuroMillions Superdraw. This Friday you and other players are able to compete for a jackpot worth around £85 million!
Don't forget to put in your lucky numbers before it is too late. You can play on the draw with us and you can also check your numbers once the draw has been made. We wish you good luck on this rare occasion - perhaps you will be able to make your own generous donation come Friday evening?
