EuroMillions Couple Gift £500,000 To Partick Thistle Football Club

Partick Thistle have been gifted a massive cash injection by EuroMillions winners Colin and Christine Weir. The couple, who won £161 million, have previously donated to the club.

The Weirs have donated £500,000 to Patrick Thistle to further develop their Thistle Weir Youth Academy. The academy itself was created after the couple gave £750,000 to the club in order to develop its youth players. Their most recent donation will keep the club going for the next 5 years.

The Thistle Weir academy, which bears the couple's name, has already brought Kevin Nisbet, James Penrice and Neil McLaughlin up through the ranks and into the first team. Gerry Britton, the academy director, has been praised for rapidly getting the project set up, with Colin Weir declaring, "we are delighted by what the academy has achieved to date. Gerry and his team have made impressive progress in a relatively short time, so we are very happy to provide further funds to ensure the academy continues to grow."

Partick Thistle chairman David Beattie told the press: "The Thistle Weir Youth Academy is absolutely massive for this club. We are grateful to Chris and Colin for this further generous donation. The development across the Thistle Weir Youth Academy in recent years has been nothing short of phenomenal."

The couples are no strangers to generosity, they have founded the Weir Trust which supports local and community ventures in Scotland, alongside their two huge cash injections into their favourite club.

When questioned about their generosity, Christine told the press: "I believe that things do happen for a reason. And we also believe that with great wealth comes great responsibilities."

Alongside this, they have reportedly gifted friends and family with luxuries such as new cars and houses, alongside their other philanthropic work.
